Days of Recollection

Our annual trip to Westminster with all the Upper Sixth was, as ever, an unusual and memorable day. Lord Alton, a former MP and now a leading light in the Lords, spoke warmly and convincingly about the need to get involved in society for the common good. A delicious lunch with wine was followed by a fascinating guided tour of Westminster Cathedral with its stunning mosaics and Eric Gill Stations of the Cross. The day ended with a quiet Mass in the Crypt.

Third Form Day of Recollection

The Third Form Day of Recollection followed a new pattern this year, and took the boys westward along the A40 through the glorious countryside of the Cotswolds to Gloucestershire. The morning was spent on a tour of historic Gloucester Cathedral, a setting well known to followers of the Harry Potter films, and in the afternoon the boys visited the Benedictine community at Prinknash, where Father Antony Conlan celebrated Mass in the contemporary Abbey Chapel.

Lower Sixth Day of Recollection

The Lower Sixth Day of Recollection on 25th June kept to the now established pattern of following the Cardinal Newman trail. The morning was spent in the Newman Centre at Littlemore, near Oxford, where the Sisters of the Spiritual Family The Work gave the boys a warm welcome, a talk on Newman’s early life and conversion, and a tour of his Chapel and private rooms. The pilgrimage then moved on to Birmingham, to the original Oratory School in the Hagley Road. Here the boys toured the glorious Oratory Church and visited both Newman’s study, where many of his great works were written, and his magnificent library. This memorable Day was concluded with the celebration of Mass by Father Antony Conlon in the Chapel of St. Phillip Neri.
