Sports Centre
The Oratory Sports Centre is one of the most visited buildings at the school. It provides a wonderful opportunity for boys to participate in the many and varied sporting activities it offers and is open for outside bookings. Tel: Rachel Davies, Sports Centre Commercial Manager on 01491 681303.
Built in 1990 the centre is open daily from 0800am to 1030pm. The 24 metre heated indoor swimming pool has a sliding roof enabling pupils to enjoy swimming all year round in a pleasantly controlled environment.
The centre offers the exhilarating game of real tennis (ours was the first court built in the UK for 80 years) and three experienced sports professionals offering expert tuition. Boys can also play squash, on the three recently reconditioned courts.
The Centre has a multi-purpose sports hall that is used daily for badminton, indoor soccer and basketball. The five indoor cricket nets offer the opportunity to practice all year round. A weights room and gym are available for students to use under supervision. This allows pupils to train specifically for the sport of their choice or to maintain a good all round level of fitness.
During their time here many Oratory boys develop an interest in sports they had not ever considered before. The wide choice and the excellent facilities offered promotes interest in many sports and the pleasure received from participation at the highest level will result in continued enjoyment long after they leave us. (The School was awarded the Independent School of the Year for Sport Award from the Daily Telegraph & Norwich Union 2007-2008).
